I have made decent progress with Golden Blood, and I have only the final chapter to complete of the first draft.
Of all the stories I have written, this one was most definitely the hardest. When I started writing the story, I thought I had a pretty good idea of how it would all pan out, but then as I got writing everything seemed to be changing as I got the words down – and where I am now is not where I thought I would be.
I like this, though. I have never planned out any of my stories, and they only exist as ideas until they get written – and this one had a mind of its own.
This first draft is going to need a whole lots of work to become even slightly readable – as I am sure it is pretty disjointed and some stuff is going to have to go, and some new stuff is going to have to come in.
But this is what I love about writing. I had an idea for a story based on rare blood types, and then that idea became something else, and then something else again—and what I have is something else entirely.
I am going to continue working on Golden Blood, but once this first draft is done, I think I will do a bit of cleaning up, park it, and let it ferment for a while, and then—with a fresh set of eyes—come back to it in a few months and work on the second draft.
It is quite a dark story, as one would expect from a story about vampires. And my next project is going to be a bit more jolly!
Have fun!
