This dark fantasy pulls you under like a spell—layered with intrigue, adventure, and a fairytale’s shadowy edge. The author crafts a world that feels lived-in and dangerous, where every whispered threat and glinting blade carries meaning. It’s a story that thrives on contrasts: light and dark, duty and desire, mercy and vengeance.

What struck me most was how quickly the tension builds without sacrificing character depth. Zola, the enigmatic traveler, radiates charm and menace in equal measure, while Selene’s curiosity and quiet strength bring a grounding humanity to the chaos. Their journey feels both mythical and immediate, full of sharp turns, eerie beauty, and moments of unexpected tenderness.

The prose is richly cinematic, the kind that paints pictures in flickering torchlight and moonlit reflections. Every setting—whether a smoky tavern, a crumbling castle, or the edge of a storm-tossed sea—feels tangible and charged with danger. Readers who crave atmosphere, fast pacing, and morally complex heroes will find themselves completely absorbed.

Age of Magic is a dark fantasy that will take you through various twists and turns as you wind your way from cover to cover. There are various characters that we get to know, and seeing how their stories are intertwined (if at all) was part of the fun of reading this. The descriptions are quite in-depth, and you’ll easily be able to visualize the setting and characters. My only complaint is it doesn’t flow very smoothly, and there are times when it feels like things are repeated too much, or we get an information dump instead of having things worked smoothly into the story. That said, it is quite the interesting story, and I enjoyed the prologue a lot. It absolutely piques your interest. If you’re looking for a dark fantasy that will take you on an adventure, then you’ll want to read this.

Age of Magic by Tim Vee is a dark fantasy read about a young woman's life upended by a traveller who brings her into magic, dark secrets, family, and even pirates! I mean what a great start to the book with all of that happening. The world building was very well written and there was so much magic involved in this one. The story starts off in the past with a princess and a pirate who takes her with him from a loveless marriage. Fast forward to almost 400 years later, a farmer is at his home with his daughter Selene, when a man appears at his farm looking for something to drink and eat after a long journey. We get a well written backstory about Selene and what happened to her life so far in the next part of the book as well as trying to figure out who the young man is. He introduces himself as Lawrence and then he disappears one night while Selene has a bad dream. She gets tossed out by her father after he finds out she is pregnant and thus starts her interesting journey for the rest of the book! The writing in this book is so interesting and so well paced that you can not help be entrenched into the world that the author has created. I loved that ending where everything works out well for Zola and Selene. I recommend this book to fans of dark fantasies!

I have been reading Tim Vee’s novels for some time now. His novels are fresh and original. I never know what to expect and have always been surprised. Age Of Magic is a dark fantasy that travels through time. I quickly became enamored with Zola and Selene and their story.

The action and adventure kept me engrossed in Tim Vee’s magical story. The writing kept the pacing and suspense operating at a high level. He brought the characters to life and their world was created in vivid detail. I loved all the secrets, magic, pirates and deadly beasts. He created many questions, as we traveled through time to reach the end. I had a feeling about the conclusion and I loved it.

My thanks go out to Tim Vee for the opportunity to read another one of his fantastic stories.

A dark fantasy with a strong fairytale atmosphere.
The story draws you in with its mood first — quiet villages, hidden magic, and a sense that something old and dangerous is always close beneath the surface. I especially liked the balance between classic fantasy elements and a more grounded, almost human perspective on power, fear, and destiny.
The world feels thoughtfully built, and the tone stays consistent throughout — dark, mysterious, but not overwhelming. Some moments are subtle rather than explosive, which will appeal to readers who enjoy atmosphere and slow tension instead of constant action.
A solid read for fans of darker fantasy with a timeless, almost folkloric feel.
