November Writing Update

Age of Magic is published – and I am so very pleased!

This is the first dark fantasy story I have written, and I enjoyed writing it so much that, pretty much as soon as I finished this story, I wrote the second part.

The story has been well received so far, and I think that those that enjoy dark fantasy stories with a fairytale edge will enjoy it a lot.

Here’s what Sherry at Fundinmental said…

I have been reading Tim Vee’s novels for some time now. His novels are fresh and original. I never know what to expect and have always been surprised. Age of Magic is a dark fantasy that travels through time. I quickly became enamoured with Zola and Selene and their story.

The story can be downloaded for free here.

I am getting ready to start the narration of Age of Magic, which will be my winter project once the cold closes in, Southern Ontario freezes, and there is no more cycling to be done until the spring.

It is still warm enough to get out on the bike – and I am hoping to get a few more rides in before Jack Frost is nipping at my nose.

I have finished The Mistress, which I plan to continue serialising here (I have got a bit behind!), and I intend to publish this novella as my first story of 2026.

I will be publishing two stories next year. I will publish The Mistress in February 2026 and The Sphinx’s Tear (the second part of the story, following on from Age of Magic) in October 2026.

I have also written a story titled Scorpius, which acts as a short story prequel to Age of Magic and The Sphinx’s Tear.

Scorpius is a story told about…Well, I think it is best for Lord Scorpius of Hypythia to tell you himself what the story is about…

My wife has just brought me wine and cheese, and some sliced meat and pickled onions, which I enjoy. I am sitting on the veranda of my villa, which overlooks stepped olive groves that fall away to the wide river.

Beyond the river, I can see rolling hills covered in golden barley that looks quite pleasant, swaying in the wind.

I am a Lord, now, and my land, gifted to me with my title by the King, covers hundreds of hectares of rich farmland.

I know nothing of farming, though. I have a steward who takes care of all that for me, and he brings the books for my wife to review. I have knights as well, sworn to my service, who patrol my land, settling disputes with the farmers who live on my lands, chasing off bandits and keeping the peace.

Tied up down on the river is my barge, with twenty oars on each side, that, when I was younger, I used to sail the hundred leagues down the river to Hymetonese, where I would visit the King and his Queen and children.

“So who are you, and why should we care?” I hear you saying, as you read these words written by an old, rich Lord, sitting in the shade of vines, sipping chilled wine and puffing his pipe.

I am indeed rich, content, and old. But it was not always like this. At first, I was a slave, and then freed by a King, and became the most famous man in Hymetonese, blessed by the moon goddess. I was a slave again, and then fought and killed for my freedom, and then fought and killed for my King, for my love, for vengeance, and to free the slaves of the Kingdom of Hymetonese.

So this is my story—the story of Lord Scorpius of Hypythia (where my lands and title sit). My story begins many years ago, in lands far to the south, out on what is known as the Grass Sea.

And that’s it for November. I hope you find something you like in my stories, and if you do, feel free to leave a rating and a review.

Stay warm!
